An historical monument
Built in 1895, the old Perron cheese factory turned out to be the final witness to the prodigious era of cottage industry cheese making in Quebec. The only survivor of its type, the cheese factory with its old tools was thus classified as an historical monument in 1989 by the ministère des Affaires culturelles (Ministry of Cultural Affairs) (ministère de la Culture et des Communications) (Ministry of Culture and Communications). From Adélard Perron (the founder) right up to today, four generations of cheesemakers have been making cheddar that now boasts an international reputation for quality.

After undergoing restoration work, the building was opened to the public in July 1992. Proudly bearing an old-fashioned style, the old cheese factory now houses the Musée du fromage cheddar, assuring its preservation and highlighting its value.
